SPYDER

Mobile anti-aircraft missile system

Weapon system · Israel · Weapon system

SPYDER is a truck-mounted anti-aircraft missile system made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the weapons company 99.9% owned by the Israeli state. Its all-in-one version carries up to eight Python-5 and I-Derby interceptors with ranges of 15 to 40 km on one 8x8 vehicle. SPYDER is not a central part of Israel's own missile shield, but it is a steady export earner for Rafael. Its largest recent order is Greece's €3B "Achilles Shield" package, signed on 31 August 2026. Rafael called the systems it is supplying "combat-proven", and Israel's Ministry of Defense said the "operational successes of Israeli systems on the battlefield continue to reinforce global demand". Missile, rocket and interceptor systems were 48% of Israel's record $14.7B in arms export deals in 2024. Profits from sales like these go back to a state-owned company that also arms Israel's own military.
