ICJ genocide applicant that became Israel's largest coal supplier

Country · South Africa · Country

South Africa took Israel to the International Court of Justice for genocide, and then sold it the coal. Per Albanese's UN report, Glencore's South African shipments were 15% of Israel's coal imports in 2023–24. BDS South Africa monitored at least 17 vessels loading at Richards Bay between October 2023 and December 2025, carrying at least 2.99 million tonnes to Hadera and Ashkelon. After Colombia's ban, exports rose 87% to 474,000 tonnes in the three months to November 2025, and News24 reports that South Africa's share of Israel's seaborne coal is heading to about 55%. No ban has followed. Charge: prosecuting by day, stoking by night.
