Shri Thanedar

U.S. Representative (Michigan 13th); lost Aug 2026 primary

U.S. Representative (Michigan 13th) · Person · United States

Shri Thanedar has represented Michigan's 13th District since January 2023. In the August 2022 primary the United Democracy Project (UDP), AIPAC's super PAC, spent about $1.43M opposing him and $2.74M backing Adam Hollier, FactCheck.org reported; Thanedar won anyway. He then moved toward AIPAC: in 2023 he left the Democratic Socialists of America, saying it had not adequately denounced Hamas, and in August 2023 travelled to Israel with an AIPAC affiliate, afterwards calling the US–Israel relationship 'mutually beneficial'. In 2024 an AIPAC-linked group, Blue Wave Action, spent nearly $2.3M attacking his opponent, and he won renomination with 54.9%. On 4 August 2026 he lost the Democratic primary to democratic socialist state Representative Donavan McKinney, 48.1% to 51.9%.
