Government of Greece

Buyer of Israel's biggest-ever European arms package, 'Achilles Shield'

Agency · Greece · Organization

Greece's government signed the 'Achilles Shield' deal with Israel on 31 August 2026, worth about €3B. Israel's Ministry of Defense calls it the largest arms export deal in the history of the two countries' relations and one of the largest in Israel's history. Rafael will supply David's Sling, SPYDER and a national command-and-control system, and IAI will supply Barak MX and ELTA radars, plus a €26M Drone Dome order. Israel's Ministry of Defense said the deal draws 'on the extensive operational experience Israel's military establishment has gained during the war', which is to say Athens is buying the Gaza track record. Greece had already selected Elbit's PULS rocket launcher in December 2025. The deal sends billions of euros to Israel's state-owned weapons makers almost a year after the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza.
