Gas producer; keeps Israel's grid running from the Karish field
Company · United Kingdom · Organization
Energean is a gas producer listed in London and Tel Aviv, founded and run by Mathios Rigas. It pumps gas for Israel from the Karish and Tanin fields, which it bought in 2016 for $148M. Under the U.S.-brokered 2022 maritime deal with Lebanon, Israel keeps control of Karish, which began producing in Oct 2022. In H1 2026 Energean sold 2.13 bcm of gas into Israel's domestic market, and Israel produced 87 of the group's 124 kboe/d. The company reported $743M in revenue and $160M in after-tax profit, up 45%, and paid $26M in current Israeli tax, a modest contribution to the treasury of a state at war. When the U.S.–Israeli war on Iran began, Israel's energy ministry ordered Karish shut for 41 days, from Feb 28 to April 9, 2026. Energean's gas powers the economy of a state that the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in Sept 2025 had committed genocide in Gaza.
