Transit state: Azerbaijani crude to Israel loads at Ceyhan despite trade ban
Country · Turkey · Country
Turkey talks embargo and collects transit fees. Ankara announced a trade ban on Israel in May 2024, and Turkish exports to Israel fell from $460.3M in September 2023 to $1,200 in September 2024. Yet Azerbaijani crude bound for Israel keeps loading at Ceyhan, the last stop of the BP-owned Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, which Turkish Minute says supplies around 40% of Israel's crude and earns Turkey $1.27 per barrel. Middle East Eye tracked one tanker, the Kimolos, making eight Ceyhan–Ashkelon journeys after the embargo was announced. Turkey's energy ministry insisted the shippers had "respected" the ban. Charge: a ban with a pipeline-shaped hole in it.
