Tom Malinowski

Former U.S. Representative from New Jersey (2019–2023); lost the Feb. 5, 2026 NJ-11 Democratic special primary after $2.3M in United Democracy Project spending against him

Former U.S. Representative, New Jersey (2019–2023) · Person · United States

Tom Malinowski, a former Democratic congressman from New Jersey, ran in the February 2026 special Democratic primary for New Jersey's 11th District, vacated when Mikie Sherrill became governor. The United Democracy Project (UDP), AIPAC's super PAC, spent about $2.3M on negative ads against him. Analilia Mejia won by fewer than 1,000 votes, and Malinowski conceded on 10 February 2026. JTA reported that AIPAC defended spending $2.3M against a pro-Israel politician in a race where a candidate it called anti-Israel prevailed. UDP's spending against Malinowski helped hand the seat to a candidate further from AIPAC's positions.
