Tel Aviv University

Israeli university; record $125M gift from Blackstone's president

Organization · Israel · Organization

Tel Aviv University received the largest gift in its history in May 2025: $125M from Blackstone president Jonathan Gray and his wife Mindy for its medical faculty, renamed the Gray Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences. The donors framed it as support for Israel after 7 October 2023. The gift came during Israel's assault on Gaza, which the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in Sept 2025 was a genocide. The donors said: 'We can think of no better way to accelerate healing than by supporting an institution that touches the lives of so many.' The healing had a border. No comparable public gift by them to Palestinian universities or hospitals was found. A Wall Street fortune thus rewrote a faculty's name in the middle of a genocide.
