Blackstone president; record $125M gift to Tel Aviv University
Blackstone president · Person · United States
Jonathan Gray has been president and chief operating officer of Blackstone since 2018 and is seen as a potential successor to Stephen Schwarzman; Forbes values him at $9.2B (13 Sep 2026). In May 2025, nineteen months into the bombardment of Gaza, he and his wife Mindy gave $125M to Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Medicine, the largest gift in the university's history, which renamed it the Gray Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences. Gray told CTech the idea grew out of discussions after 7 October 2023: 'we certainly have a huge amount of sympathy for the people of Israel and we just wanted to show up and say we support you and we want to help you.' Sympathy was allocated accordingly. The gift came during Israel's assault on Gaza, which the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in Sept 2025 was a genocide.
