Allianz bond manager; biggest named buyer of Israeli war bonds, $960M
Asset manager · United States · Organization
PIMCO, the bond-investment arm of German insurer Allianz, is named in UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese's July 2025 report as the largest asset-manager buyer of the Israeli treasury bonds that funded the assault on Gaza, at $960M, ahead of Vanguard ($546M) and BlackRock ($68M). The report says those bonds 'played a critical role in funding the ongoing assault on Gaza' as Israel's military budget rose from 4.2% to 8.3% of GDP between 2022 and 2024, financed in part by $8B of bonds in March 2024 and $5B in February 2025. PIMCO did not make a weapon; it lent the money to buy them, and it collects the interest. The coupon payments are, in effect, a dividend on the bombardment. The UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in Sept 2025 that Israel committed genocide in Gaza.
