Israeli military AI system that marks people as targets

Lavender is an Israeli military AI system revealed by +972 Magazine and Local Call in April 2024. It marked some 37,000 Palestinians as suspected militants; officers said they spent about 20 seconds per target and acted as a 'rubber stamp', though the system erred in about 10 percent of cases. The army allowed up to 15 or 20 civilian deaths for a junior suspect. Paired with 'Where's Daddy?', it led to strikes on family homes, often with unguided 'dumb' bombs. Sources said it played a central role in the bombing of Palestinians, especially in the early stages of the Gaza genocide. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese's July 2025 report names Lavender among the AI systems Israel uses to process targets.
