Police using Israeli riot gear and Cellebrite phone-cracking tools

Kenya's security forces are shopping customers of the Israeli repression industry. During the 2024 protests against the government's fiscal policies, in which over 60 people were killed, footage showed police using "less lethal" riot gear made by the Israeli company Ispra, per the Database of Israeli Military and Security Export (DIMSE). In 2026 Citizen Lab found that Cellebrite's forensic extraction tools had been used on the phone of activist Boniface Mwangi while he was in police custody. Technology refined on Palestinians, field-tested on Kenyans. Charge: imported crowd control.
