Tested Israeli attack drones for its military; Itochu dropped Elbit after ICJ order
Country · Japan · Country
Japan plays both sides of the ledger. Its Ministry of Defense spent about ¥9.9B testing multi-purpose and small attack drones, and in five of those contracts the drones were Israeli, Arab News Japan reported in July 2024. In contrast, trading house Itochu ended its memorandum with Elbit Systems in February 2024, explicitly citing the ICJ's 26 January order on preventing genocide. Itochu showed that a company could walk away; the ministry kept shopping. Charge: one arm of Japan Inc. said no, the other took delivery.
