Isaac Herzog

President of Israel

President of Israel · Person

Isaac Herzog has been Israel's eleventh president since 7 July 2021. He is the polished face the state sends abroad. In October 2023 he said of Gaza: "It's an entire nation out there that is responsible. It is not true, this rhetoric about civilians who were not aware or not involved." At the turn of 2024 a photograph circulated of him writing "I rely on you" on a shell to be dropped on Gaza. He called South Africa's genocide case at the International Court of Justice a "blood libel". In September 2025 the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded that he, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant had incited genocide. Swiss federal prosecutors examined a criminal complaint against him during his 2024 visit to Davos. On 30 November 2025 Netanyahu, on trial for bribery, asked him for a pardon. In April 2026 Herzog put the request on hold and pushed for a plea deal instead. The president is paid NIS 68,000 a month, more than the prime minister.
