Alphabet's cloud arm; rushed AI tools to Israel's military after Oct 7
Company · United States · Organization
Google Cloud is the cloud and AI division of Google, owned by Alphabet; its earnings flow to Alphabet's shareholders. With Amazon Web Services it holds Project Nimbus, the $1.2B (NIS 4B) contract signed in 2021 to supply Israel's government and military with cloud computing and AI. According to the Washington Post, Google Cloud staff gave Israel's military access to its Vertex AI platform in the weeks after Oct 7, 2023, the military sought Gemini to process documents and audio, and its services were still in use in Nov 2024. Leaked Nimbus terms, reported by the Guardian, +972 and Local Call, bar Google from suspending Israel's access and set up a coded 'wink' payment to alert Israel when foreign authorities demand its data. Workers who objected fared worse than the client: Google fired more than 50 who protested the contract. In March 2026 the $32B Israeli firm Wiz joined Google Cloud. Revenue reached $24.77B in Q2 2026, up 82%.
