Donna Edwards

Former U.S. Representative, Maryland (UDP-opposed, lost 2022)

Former U.S. Representative, Maryland (UDP-opposed, lost 2022) · Person · United States

Donna Edwards represented Maryland's 4th District in Congress before running to return in 2022. Opposing her was the single largest target of the United Democracy Project (UDP), AIPAC's super PAC, that cycle: it spent about $4.27M in FEC-reported independent expenditures against her, and Wikipedia puts the anti-Edwards advertising at nearly $6M, while also spending $1.7M supporting her rival Glenn Ivey. J Street's PAC backed Edwards with $720,000. Edwards lost the July 2022 primary with 35% to Ivey's 52%. Her defeat made her the clearest early example of AIPAC's shift from lobbying to buying primary outcomes directly.
