De facto embargo undermined by transit through its ports and airports
Country · Belgium · Country
Belgium has kept a de facto embargo on arms exports to Israel since 2009, and the Walloon government suspended licences for explosive powder in 2024 and banned arms transit through Liège and Charleroi airports. But its ports and airports remain transit routes. On July 17, 2025 a Brussels court, ruling on a case brought by 11.11.11, Vredeactie, Intal and the League for Human Rights, blocked a container of Merkava tank and Namer armoured vehicle components from leaving Antwerp and set €50,000 fines for future shipments. In June 2026 Amnesty joined a criminal complaint against FedEx Belgium for moving an ITAR-controlled shipment in October 2024 from Hill Air Force Base in Utah via Liège to Nevatim airbase, home of Israel's F-35s, without a transit licence. AOAV counts €46M of Belgian transfers in 2014–2022.
