Sundar Pichai

Google CEO; fired Nimbus protesters, dropped the no-weapons AI pledge

Google CEO · Person

Sundar Pichai is CEO of Alphabet and Google. His reported total pay was $10.73M for 2024 and $8.8M for 2023; in March 2026 Alphabet approved a new three-year package potentially worth $692M, including $84M of restricted stock. Forbes puts his net worth at $1.6B (30 Sep 2026), noting he has sold more than $500M of shares. Google and Amazon run Project Nimbus, Israel's $1.2B government cloud contract, and Francesca Albanese's July 2025 UN report names Alphabet among firms granting Israel 'virtually government-wide access' to cloud and AI. In April 2024 Google fired about 50 employees after sit-ins against Nimbus, and Pichai told staff 'this is a business, and not a place to act in a way that disrupts coworkers or makes them feel unsafe.' Palestinians in Gaza were not consulted on feeling unsafe. In February 2025 Google dropped language from its AI principles that ruled out using AI for weapons and surveillance, AP reported. Two months after Albanese's report, the UN Commission of Inquiry found Israel had committed genocide in Gaza.
