Stephen Schwarzman

Blackstone chief; backed Trump in May 2024, citing antisemitism

Blackstone chief · Person · United States

Stephen Schwarzman co-founded the private-equity firm Blackstone and is its chairman and CEO; Forbes values him at $40.5B (3 Oct 2026). In February 2018 he gave $10M to the National Library of Israel for the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Center, which he described as his first donation in Israel. A long-time Republican donor and former Trump adviser, he announced on 24 May 2024, in the middle of Israel's assault on Gaza and the campus protests against it, that he would back Donald Trump: 'The dramatic rise of antisemitism has led me to focus on the consequences of upcoming elections with greater urgency.' The urgency was about the protesters, not the bombing they were protesting. The candidate he backed went on to rush bombs to Israel, sanction the International Criminal Court and launch a war on Iran. The UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in Sept 2025 that Israel committed genocide in Gaza.
