Magen David Adom

Israel's emergency medical service; magnet for US billionaire money after Oct 7

Nonprofit · Israel · Organization

Magen David Adom is Israel's national emergency medical, ambulance and blood service, recognised by law. After 7 October 2023 it became a major destination for US billionaire money: Michael Bloomberg matched nearly $44M for an $88M gift, the largest in American Friends of MDA's history, which paid for ambulances, ballistic vests and helmets, and Forbes reported Bernie Marcus was supporting it alongside the IDF. Marcus and his wife had earlier given $25M toward its national blood centre. This giving came during Israel's assault on Gaza, which the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in Sept 2025 was a genocide. The charge here is not against paramedics but against the asymmetry: the same donors put no comparable public sums into Palestinian emergency services, as far as this research found.
