AMRAAM

Radar-guided air-to-air missile (RTX/Raytheon)

Weapon system · United States · Weapon system

The AIM-120 AMRAAM is a radar-guided, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile made by Raytheon, part of RTX. Israel buys it through U.S. Foreign Military Sales: on 13 August 2024, ten months into the Gaza genocide, the State Department approved 30 AIM-120C-8 missiles for Israel at an estimated $102.5M, with RTX in Tucson as principal contractor and the missiles to come from new production. On 28 September 2026, weeks after the US-Israeli war on Iran, RTX announced a $20.7B multi-year contract to raise AMRAAM output to 'record-setting levels'. This map shows AMRAAM as procurement only: we have found no evidence tying Israeli AMRAAM use to a specific strike in Gaza, Lebanon or Iran. Its role is to give U.S. and Israeli warplanes control of the air, which lets them bomb freely.
