Effective October 5, 2026

The Common Network collects as little about you as it can. You can read every story without an account. This page explains what we keep when you do sign in, and why.

What we collect

  • From Google sign-in: your name, email address and profile photo link, plus the sign-in tokens Google issues so you stay signed in. We only ask Google for basic profile access. We never see your Google password.
  • What you tell us: the home jurisdiction you choose and any others you follow, the stories you save, and the civic actions you mark as done, with the date.
  • Session details: the IP address and browser or device type of each signed-in session, used to keep your account secure.

How we use it

  • To sign you in and keep you signed in.
  • To show the actions that apply to where you live, and to keep your saved stories and action history.
  • To show anonymous totals, like how many people acted on a story. These counts never include your name.

What we never do

We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use advertising or tracking cookies. We don’t share your information with campaigns, parties or officials. When you contact an official through the app, that message goes from your own phone or email app, not through us.

Services we rely on

  • Google: sign-in.
  • Vercel: hosts the site, and keeps standard server request logs.
  • Neon: hosts our database.
  • Stripe: processes contributions. Stripe handles your card details, and we never see them. We receive your name, email and the amount for our records.

Cookies

We only use cookies to keep you signed in. They expire when your session ends or when you sign out.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account exists. To get a copy of your data, or to delete your account and everything linked to it, email hello@thecommonnetwork.com. We’ll respond within 30 days. You can also remove our access to your Google account at any time from your Google account’s security settings.

Children

The Common Network isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Questions: hello@thecommonnetwork.com.
