What happened
The Foreign Press Association filed its petition in September 2024 seeking independent journalist access to Gaza, which has been barred since 7 October 2023. On 26 January 2026 Justice Ruth Ronen told the state 'You can no longer say it's the same risk' after the October 2025 ceasefire, but the court again postponed, the ninth extension. In April 2026 the FPA, CPJ, RSF and the Union of Journalists in Israel asked the court to speed up a decision after another delay to 24 May; the state cites security risks and has not yet been ordered to open access.
