A UK government inquiry found the Church of England put its reputation above victims of Bishop Peter Ball, who abused at least 18 young men
IICSA (the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse), a UK statutory public inquiry, published its report on the Diocese of Chichester and the response to allegations against Peter Ball on 9 May 2019. As quoted by the Religion Media Centre, it found the church 'put its own reputation above the needs of Ball's victims,' with 'a serious failure of leadership by Archbishop George Carey.' Ball, a former Bishop of Lewes and of Gloucester, accepted a police caution in 1993 and resigned as bishop but was allowed to continue officiating.
