Rome prosecutors are investigating city officials over alleged bribes to rig about EUR 100 million in road contracts.
On 13 November 2024 Italy's Guardia di Finanza searched Rome's Campidoglio as part of a Rome prosecutors' probe into alleged corruption, bid-rigging and procurement fraud in about EUR 100 million of road-resurfacing contracts, some linked to Jubilee funds, won by companies of Frascati entrepreneur Mirko Pellegrini, whose lawyer says these are only accusations. Five city officials and traffic police employees are reported to be under investigation; investigators allege bribes, including jobs for officials' children, were funded by cutting costs on materials such as bitumen, leaving road layers too thin.
