Hawaii's State Auditor found the state homelessness office paid more than $13.7 million in HomeAid Hawaiʻi kauhale contract costs without adequately determining whether they were reimbursable

In Report No. 26-11 (October 2026), the Hawaii Office of the Auditor reviewed nine cost-reimbursement contracts between the Statewide Office on Homelessness and Housing Solutions (SOHHS) and the nonprofit HomeAid Hawaiʻi for Governor Josh Green's kauhale initiative.
