Mangalia mayor Cristian Radu sent to trial by Romania's anti-corruption directorate on bribery and money-laundering charges over an alleged EUR 622,000 scheme

Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) detained Mangalia mayor Cristian Radu on 21 August 2025 and he was suspended from office the following day. On 18 December 2025 DNA prosecutors sent him to trial before the Constanta Tribunal on charges of taking bribes, money laundering and instigating bad-faith use of a company's assets, alleging he demanded and received about EUR 622,233 between 2022 and 2025 tied to urban planning documents and council decisions.
