What happened
On June 16, 2025, Togo's media regulator, the HAAC, suspended Radio France Internationale (RFI) and France 24 for three months, citing 'repeated failures' in impartiality and fact-checking and saying they had aired content that was 'inaccurate, biased, or even contrary to established facts', undermining 'the stability of republican institutions and the image of the country', without giving details. RFI and France 24 said they learned of it without notice and stood by their reporting. The suspension followed June 2025 protests in Lome. The Committee to Protect Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists condemned the ban; the HAAC did not respond to CPJ.
