What happened
Cyprus's Independent Authority Against Corruption took three years and three months to conclude its investigation into a complaint by AKEL MP Christos Christofides that donations to the ruling Disy party were linked to Cyprus 'golden passports' for 13 foreign nationals. According to Cyprus Mail, the authority found no testimony supporting such a link and no indication of corruption offences. Christofides called the duration excessive and said the delay weakened the documentation of the case, and that the lack of criminal findings does not mean the conflict of interest ceased to exist. Cyprus Mail's editorial called the authority a 'toothless body' whose findings cannot be enforced and must go to the Attorney General for any criminal case.
