What happened
The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack subpoenaed Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) on May 12, 2022, along with four other House members (Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs and Mo Brooks), for deposition testimony. According to the committee's final report (H. Rept. 117-663), Perry responded by letter on May 24, 2022, "declin[ing] to appear for deposition" and asking that the subpoena be "immediately withdrawn"; he did not appear at his May 26 deposition, sent a second letter of objections on May 31, wrote again on June 10 maintaining his objections, and did not appear by the committee's June 11 deadline. The committee did not release him from the subpoena. In December 2022 the committee referred Perry, McCarthy, Jordan and Biggs to the House Ethics Committee for sanction, stating the referral was only for failure to comply with the subpoenas. Perry's position: a letter sent on his behalf, as reported by abc27, said the committee was "not duly constituted" and was "abusing its authority to target members of the opposite political party," and that he had not received the subpoena; Perry has called the committee an "illegitimate body." The sources reviewed show no public finding or sanction by the Ethics Committee on the referral.
