The Committee to Protect Journalists said in April 2026 that Ihab Diab, a Gaza photographer arrested December 12, 2023, and Marwan Harzallah, a Palestine TV technician arrested January 8, 2026 who died March 28, 2026 at Megiddo Prison, died in Israeli custody. CPJ says the IDF first denied holding Diab and later said it held his body and that he was a Hamas platoon commander, and that the Prison Service said Harzallah's death would be examined by the competent authorities. CPJ reports no independent investigation had been opened. Al Jazeera reported in August 2026 that the Prison Service notified Palestinian officials of Diab's death, with Israeli authorities citing a health condition that his family disputes.
