The Manhattan District Attorney's Office and NYC Department of Investigation announced on March 30, 2026 the indictment of Jake Udeh, a former Assistant Chief Plans Examiner at the Department of Buildings, for accepting more than $75,000 in bribes between 2021 and 2025 from three construction company owners to improperly influence approvals on more than 300 projects across all five boroughs. Udeh faces bribe-receiving and conspiracy felony charges; DA Alvin Bragg said Udeh 'used his supervisory role at the Department of Buildings to help his co-conspirators leapfrog those abiding by the rules.' DOB says staff noticed the suspicious activity and referred it to DOI.
