What happened
Oumar Sylla (known as Foniké Mengué) and Mamadou Billo Bah, activists of the FNDC (Front National pour la Défense de la Constitution), were arrested on 9 July 2024 at Sylla's home in Conakry and have not been seen since. A third member arrested with them and released the next day said they were taken by special forces to the Loos archipelago to be interrogated and tortured, which Amnesty reports as an allegation. The authorities deny holding them. On the two-year anniversary, Amnesty and partner groups said 'there is no evidence that the Guinean authorities have carried out any investigation to find them' although one was announced, and called for the men's fate to be revealed.
