A woman identified in court records as Jane Doe has sued the State of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Corrections, the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW) and a correctional counselor in Polk County District Court, according to Iowa Capital Dispatch. The suit alleges sexual contact in 2024 and says a Prison Rape Elimination Act report led to a department investigation; it states that a Feb. 24, 2025 department letter found the sexual misconduct allegation unsubstantiated and the sexual harassment allegation substantiated, and that the counselor was no longer employed days later. It also names the DOC director and ICIW warden, alleging they should have known of the risk. State lawyers say they do not comment on pending litigation. The allegations have not been decided by a court.
