What happened
On 3 December 2024, armed men in gendarme uniforms intercepted the car of journalist Habib Marouane Camara in Lambanyi, a Conakry suburb, beat him unconscious and drove him to an unknown location, according to witnesses cited by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists. Camara, owner of the news website Le Revelateur 224, has not been heard from since. In June 2025 RSF coordinated a public appeal, signed by 94 African journalists and 11 organisations, demanding that Guinea's authorities disclose his fate, and in July 2025 it asked the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances to investigate. Guinean media reported in May 2026 that the head of the media regulator HAC said the prosecutor had indicated a judicial investigation was open; as of that report Camara had not been found.
