What happened
Poland's Supreme Audit Office (NIK) audited the Justice Fund (Fundusz Sprawiedliwości), controlled by the Minister of Justice, covering 22 beneficiaries and 30 grant agreements worth over 260 million zloty, and found gross mismanagement, fictitious contracts, and inflated prices, demanding return of 65 million zloty. Prosecutors subsequently brought 26 charges against former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, including founding and leading an organized criminal group that embezzled over 150 million zloty from the fund, and in October 2025 the Sejm was asked to lift his immunity for arrest. Ziobro denies wrongdoing and calls the charges politically motivated; he has since been granted asylum in Hungary.
