Kosovo's Assembly, elected in snap elections on June 7, 2026, missed its 30-day constitutional deadline (which expired August 7) to complete its constitution by electing a speaker and deputy speakers. Albulena Haxhiu (Vetevendosje) was re-elected speaker on September 9, 2026, with 62 votes, after Vetevendosje and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) agreed on Bekim Sejdiu as joint presidential candidate, over resistance from six LDK MPs. On September 11, PDK nominee Vlora Citaku received 44 votes, short of the 61 required. Vetevendosje's parliamentary group leader Arberie Nagavci said its MPs would not support any deputy-speaker candidate who opposes that deal; PDK walked out and its leader Bedri Hamza said the party would go to the Constitutional Court. The president must be elected within two months of the Assembly's inauguration.
