What happened
Under a consent agreement dated July 28, 2026, the Alaska Public Offices Commission found Rep. Louise Stutes of Kodiak violated state campaign finance reporting requirements over five years, including failing to properly describe expenditures, improperly reimbursing herself, using campaign funds for legislative business and filing incomplete reports. APOC found nothing to indicate the more serious violations were intentional or gave her a personal benefit; the agreed penalty is $2,643.50 against a maximum of $264,350, plus $13,869 repaid to her campaign account. Stutes is running for the state Senate seat representing Kodiak, Seward and Cordova, and all candidates in her race advanced to the Nov. 3 general election, according to the Anchorage Daily News. Stutes told the Anchorage Daily News the errors were unintentional and that her treasurer had left after the 2022 campaign. A complaint was filed in October 2025 by Randy Ruedrich; Stutes has suggested it was tied to partisan disagreements.
