What happened
Hungary's Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs announced the state is dissolving the Central and Eastern European Oncology Academy Foundation, created in 2019 and run since 2020 under former Human Capacities/Health Minister Miklós Kásler, after a State Audit Office (ÁSZ) review of the foundation's finances found it had received roughly 2.25 billion forint in public funding over its life and had spent about 1 billion forint of that buying and renovating a villa on Diana utca in Budapest's 12th district, with little to show in actual cancer-research output. The government ordered a full financial review (átvilágítás) of the foundation in August 2026 before announcing its dissolution later that month. Kásler has not publicly responded to the announcement.
