What happened
On February 26, 2025 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina convicted Milorad Dodik of knowingly defying decisions of High Representative Christian Schmidt, sentencing him to one year in prison and a six-year ban on holding the Republika Srpska presidency. The next day, the Republika Srpska National Assembly passed laws banning the state court, prosecutor's office, High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and State Investigation and Protection Agency from exercising jurisdiction in the entity, plus a 'foreign agents' law for non-profits; opposition lawmakers boycotted the vote. Bosnia's Constitutional Court suspended the laws at the end of May 2025. On August 1, 2025 the appeals chamber confirmed the verdict, and Dodik said he would appeal to the Constitutional Court.
