Mexico's Defense Ministry has not delivered 853 Army intelligence files on Ayotzinapa a federal judge ordered released, and has challenged the ruling

What happened
On 4 March 2026 a Mexico City federal district court in administrative matters, ruling on an amparo filed by the families in 2023, ordered the Defense Ministry (Sedena) to hand over 853 files produced in 2014 by the Army's regional intelligence fusion centre in Iguala, saying they could not be withheld as confidential given the victims' right to truth. According to the families' lawyers, the government says only 33 relevant documents exist and were already provided, and Sedena challenged the ruling in March 2026. At a 28 September 2026 report on the 43 missing students, authorities presented four new lines of investigation, but families said the military-documents demand and the return of independent experts went unaddressed.
