What happened
Slovenia's Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (KPK) says that under Article 27 of the Integrity and Prevention of Corruption Act, professional officials such as state secretaries cannot hold positions in bodies like municipalities, and that Damijan Jaklin's roles as State Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and part-time mayor of Velika Polana are therefore incompatible (24ur, 7 July 2026). Jaklin refuses to resign and says he acted lawfully; his party NSi cites a 2020 KPK opinion that allowed the combination and says it was unaware of KPK's 2023 position. Separately, POP TV and 24ur reported that prosecutors are investigating allegations that Jaklin received over 60,000 euros tied to a Pomurje water-pipeline project; he and his lawyer deny knowledge of proceedings, and no charges have been filed.
