Subject of this story
What happened
Autumn Hill is one of nine defendants (the 'Prairieland Nine') federally prosecuted after a July 4, 2025 protest outside the Prairieland ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Texas, during which fireworks were set off and a police officer was shot by another participant. Hill, who reportedly left before the demonstration turned violent, was convicted on riot, explosives, and material-support-for-terrorism charges and sentenced to 50 years, part of sentences ranging 30-100 years for the group under the Trump administration's designation of antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. DOJ officials (Attorney General Bondi, FBI Director Patel, and the prosecuting U.S. Attorney) have publicly defended the prosecutions and sentences.
