What happened
Norway's economic-crime unit Okokrim charged diplomat Mona Juul (siktet) with gross corruption on February 9, 2026, investigating whether between 2012 and 2019 she received benefits connected to her Foreign Ministry positions, including help buying an Oslo apartment, trips and other advantages for herself and family, in connection with Jeffrey Epstein. Documents released in the Epstein files show years of contact, gifts and holidays, which contradicted her earlier statement that she had no social or professional relationship with him. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said she was relieved of duty as ambassador to Iraq and Jordan and would not return to the post, and she remains employed by the ministry while it examines her contact with Epstein. Her husband, diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen, was charged with complicity in gross corruption. Juul's lawyer said she 'does not recognize herself' in the charge. The Storting's control committee scheduled hearings with current and former ministers on Norway's Epstein links for September 29-30, 2026. A charge is not a finding of guilt.
