What happened
On 22 November 2024 Defense Minister Israel Katz announced he would stop using administrative detention (detention without charge) against Jewish West Bank settlers, saying such a measure was not appropriate against people in the settlements. The Times of Israel reported that seven Jewish Israelis were then held under such orders and that the Shin Bet had warned the move would seriously harm state security; over 3,400 people, mostly Palestinians, remain in administrative detention. On 4 December 2024 the Times of Israel, citing i24News, reported Katz said he would decide requests on security grounds without distinction between Jews and Arabs.
