What happened
Former Dominican Finance Minister Donald Guerrero Ortiz is the main accused, alongside other former officials including Angel Lockward, in the corruption case known as "Caso Calamar" (Operacion Calamar), prosecuted by the PEPCA under Mirna Ortiz before the Third Collegiate Court of the National District. According to Listin Diario, around Sept 14, 2026 the court rejected defense requests to declare the criminal action extinguished over the case's duration (the judge, Ailin Ventura, dissented), and on Sept 16 it rejected the Public Ministry's request to recuse Ventura and ordered the trial to proceed. Guerrero's defense says the prosecution's accusation lacks evidentiary support. The accused are presumed innocent; no verdict has been reached.
