House filings show Rep. Rob Wittman reported 21 stock trades 61 to 532 days after the trade dates, past the STOCK Act's deadline, in three reports filed in 2021 and 2023; his office said an accountant failed to file the August 2023 report on time

What happened
The House Ethics Committee says members must disclose securities transactions over $1,000 by the earlier of 30 days after being made aware of them or 45 days after the transaction. Three Periodic Transaction Reports signed by Rep. Rob Wittman (VA-1) list trades filed long after that window. Filing ID 20018052, signed January 26, 2021, lists eight purchases and sales dated July 2, 2020, 208 days earlier. Filing ID 20023474, signed August 13, 2023, lists purchases of Accenture, Mastercard and TJX and a partial sale of Piedmont Office Realty Trust dated February 27, July 15, October 8 and December 7, 2022, each in the $1,001 to $15,000 range and 249 to 532 days earlier. Filing ID 20023757, signed September 30, 2023, lists ten trades; nine are dated April 21 to July 31, 2023, 61 to 162 days earlier, and one (August 17, 2023) is within the 45-day window. The Washington Examiner reported on the August 2023 filing on August 16, 2023; Wittman's spokeswoman told the paper that his accountant had failed to file on time. Virginia Dogwood reported on October 1, 2026 that a Wittman spokesperson said he does not personally direct his stock trades and that his investments are independently managed by a financial professional. The sources reviewed identify no House Ethics Committee finding or penalty.
