What happened
San Francisco's Ethics Commission, created to police officials' financial disclosures after the 2020 Mohammed Nuru bribery scandal, lost two of its three senior compliance positions responsible for reviewing mandatory Form 700 disclosures over Mayor Daniel Lurie's last two budget cycles. A city report stated the cuts 'will necessarily limit the level of Form 700 compliance work the department is able to accomplish moving forward.' The cuts, first reported by Mission Local, drew criticism for coinciding with Lurie's campaign for charter reform measures pitched as ending 'corrupt contracting.'
