What happened
On April 1, 2024, Israeli drones struck a World Central Kitchen convoy in Gaza in three separate hits minutes apart, killing seven aid workers from the UK, Australia, Poland, Palestine and a dual Canadian-American national. An IDF investigation released April 4-5, 2024 found the strikes resulted from misidentification and a breakdown in passing coordination information down the chain of command; it dismissed the brigade's fire-support commander and chief of staff and formally reprimanded three more senior officers, including the Southern Command chief. On August 19, 2026, the IDF announced it would not pursue criminal charges against anyone involved, prompting a joint statement from the UK, Canada and Australia calling the decision "shameful," and WCK to call the closure "inconsistent with the truth."
