What happened
On 1 October 2025 Morocco's Royal Gendarmerie used live ammunition at a post in Lqliaa, Agadir prefecture, and three men (Abdelhakim Derfidi, Abdessamade Oubalat and Mohamed Rahali) died, according to MENA Rights Group and Human Rights Watch. The Interior Ministry said security forces acted in legitimate self-defence after protesters threw stones and apparently used knives. Human Rights Watch reviewed CCTV footage showing protesters throwing stones and a uniformed man firing, and could not confirm whether tear gas was used before lethal fire. MENA Rights Group and the AMDH say the judicial investigation was entrusted to services of the same body involved, that no independent ballistic tests were reported, and that no suspensions, weapon withdrawals or disciplinary proceedings were reported against the officers; they called for an independent investigation.
